This video has been doing the rounds on the other app, so sharing here to reach all those who will find it helpful! Any questions, let me know! Here’s what I packed by way of entertainment for my 4 kids on our train trip from the South of France to London. This was a 7 hour trip for us - 2 X 2 1/2 hour journeys with a stopover in Paris in between. Our family like to go slow, and (for us!) that means no screens for the kids, not necessarily taking the fastest mode of transport (flying is ofc faster but less environmentally friendly), and using long journeys as opportunities for connection rather than packing entertainment to fill up the entire journey time. We take a less is more approach, with one big bag of things and the kids don’t have their own bags to carry as it just means more things to keep track of. Some other tips: 🧳 I pack items in separate tote bags so that they’re easier to keep track of and can be brought out at intervals if needed 🧳 We start by not taking out anything and begin the journey talking to each other and looking out of the window 🧳 It can be hard not to feel the burden of your kids not disturbing other people with their noise/ big feelings/ boredom. But keep in mind your kids have just as much right to travel as anyone, and that kids are allowed to be kids! Now I’m posting this after our outbound journey and in fact the only things we used from this bag were the dominoes, small notebooks and crayons and the teething toy! Everything else we didn’t even use/ need and remains in the bag for our return! Most of our time on the train was spent: 🚂 chatting with each other 🚂 making friends with another little girl and inviting her to join us (she shared some of her play dough with the kids and a story) 🚂 walking to the kiosk to choose snacks 🚂 looking out at the view 🚂 2/4 kids sleeping for most of the second journey Whether you’re screen free or not, I hope this video inspires the idea that long journeys need not mean bringing your whole house with you or investing in lots of gadgets/ toys/ etc for long journeys. Because while long journeys with kids can (of course!) be difficult, they can also be really low- key, with success. Let me know your thoughts in comments- what would you add to this list? And what’s your preferred way to travel with your kids? #4under6 #motherof4 #slowparenting #slowliving #slowtravel #traintravel #travelwithkids
