I do tighter curls let them cool then put oil in it and they loosen nicely! I have long fine hair so I have the same issues with it falling out too much if I don't get them tight enough!

From a hairstylist I would get the 1in too,, it’s a BIG difference from a 1 and 1/4in and if you switch the section size you get a bunch of different styles from one iron and they hold so much better
