Currently lithium and cobalt mining for EV batteries is associated with all sorts of poor working conditions, health hazards and local environmental degradation - it’s totally cussed and needs to be addressed…but to use it as an excuse to not pursue alternative energy sources is a bit hypocritical. After all, how many people have been and still are subject to poor working conditions as oil and gas industries developed? How many environmental crisis were and still are created as a result of these industries? How many wars have been fought, people killed, communities destroyed, leaders assassinated in order for certain parties to maintain or gain control of oil? And how do you weigh the ethics of all these tiny ignitions of fossil fuels, the hyper-objectivity of gasoline, that has resulted in an altered climate that threatens the survival of the human societies that we live in and life as we know it?  Yes, EV production has it’s downsides, but when compared to the historic and continued impacts of the fossil fuel industry, can you really say that EVs are worse? Technology also notoriously gets better, cheaper and easier the more we use it. Sure, lithium batteries have their downsides, but lithium is not exclusive to EV’s, and even since this industry has boomed there have been massive improvements in technology for things like magnesium or even sodium based batteries, which are far more abundant and safer minerals here on earth, which means lower cost and less environmental impact.  As those technologies evolve, they will become cheaper and more efficient than we can even predict today, just as all technology does.   Just because lithium is what we have now doesn’t mean it will always be that way, but in order for the industry to evolve, people have to get involved and show support of the idea so that the technology can follow suit, to get better and better, without the humanitarian or environmental impacts we currently see today. Progress is a long and arduous road, but we’ve gotta take the first step in the right direction, and the further we go, the easier and better it gets for us all. #electric #ev #climate #edutok #solutions #tesla
