Replying to @feralforaging If you ask me, wild lettuce is misattributed in the toxicology report mentioned. This is of course, my opinion, but if you read the article on my website, (google, “feral foraging is wild lettuce toxic”) you can read my full supporting arguments as to how I arrived at that stance. The short of it is, according to the article, the plant consumed was raw wild Lactuca virosa. Unless you’re after something, it’s difficult even having a tiny bite of raw Lactuca virosa because it is SO BITTER! I shared a video about Canadian Wild Lettuce (Lactuca canadensis) and gave a few details on how to tell the difference. L. canadensis also is not unpalatably bitter when young, in fact, it tastes great, so great that I ate over 4 cups of it for this video! (Wouldn’t recommend, I think it stopped tasting good after cup 2) And no, I didn’t have any “psychological effects” either. If you are here to have a discussion, I’m here for it too! But please, for goodness sake, if you’re going to make a wild claim at least give us a source so we can properly analyze it. We can’t all just pull wild statements out of the ether and act like they are fact. I’ve provided my sources and I expect the same from you! 🙂 I can’t think of a plant that I have a closer relationship with than wild lettuce and it pains me to see fear-mongering spread about it. This is me trying to add a positive signal to the noise. Be feral, keep foraging, and DYOR. #foraging #nature #wildlettuce #lactuca
