I live within 5 miles of three beach shops that sell hermit crabs in NC. Is there anything I can do to help these crabs after beach season? I have no idea how to help.

I didn’t know that they lived, or could live, for so long. I almost got one, but I found out how much work it was, and it wouldn’t be fair to the animal.

Make the sanctuary a place people can visit and view them, while educating people about them. Charge a minimal fee to help cover costs and encourage donations or something like that

I rescued almost 100 from a dumpster of a tourist shop after hearing an employee talk about it a few years ago, gave them to the local HS bio teacher for her class

I went to Myrtle in off season. Crabs left in shops, no water, food…and obviously the mesh cages…soooo many dead

In the 90’s, beach shops used to sell ☠️baby sharks in jars 😳. I think ppl put pressure on them to stop. Maybe a petition is a good place to start 🤷🏼♀️

Learned something new, but sadly not surprised. My rant is gold fish, lizards and turtles being fair prizes. People think gold fish are easy, but they get large when cared for. Kid came home with 4 and got a 20g tank, but luckily have a fish store that once they grow can rehome since 20g is bare minimum and only for couple months. Same rant can be for other animals too.

The ex in-laws bought my kid’s hermit crabs.. after a month they died because the ex didn’t take care of them properly. 😢
