@cooknbakewithdeepa: Every household has a homeremedy for cough, cold, congestion, and upset stomach. Ours is the carom/ajwain soup aka Jwanoko Jhol. It is one of the most used spices in my kitchen during fall and winter. It tastes and smells like a mix of thyme, cumin, and anise. Ingredients: Half large onion; chopped in cubes 1/2 cup chopped carrots 4 garlic cloves 1 inch fresh ginger; peeled and sliced 1 tbs ghee 1 tbs carom/ajwain seeds 1/4 tsp cumin seeds 1/4 tsp turmeric powder 4 cup water Salt to taste Instructions: 1. Blend onion, carrots, ginger, garlic, and 1 tbs water in a blender until smooth. 2. Heat a pot. Add ghee. Add carom and cumin seeds and fry them until they turn dark brown. Add blended veggies and turmeric powder. Fry for 2-3 minutes. Add water and salt. Stir and cover. 3. Bring it to boil and simmer on medium-low heat until almost all of the seeds settle down at the bottom of the pot (25-30 mins). 4. Serve it warm with cooked rice or pasta.
