When losing fat should you focus on food quality or just calories? Nutrition on social media is often presented as if you have to chose one side or the other to get results What you need to understand is that calories do matter and they will dictate your fat loss. But nutrition is more nuanced than just looking at calories. If all you care about when losing fat is the calories and you neglect the quality of your food - you will likely be more hungry, have low energy and just feel a bit shit. As always you just have be sensible and apply a bit of logic, it’s not one choice or the other, the answer is usually somewhere In the middle. Do some of my meals only contain whole foods yes (not eaten off a chopping board though) - but that doesn’t stop me from enjoying some chocolate or other fun foods in moderation. Because I know that I can do that and still get fat loss results. To get the best results and make fat loss a slightly easier process, you should consider both calories and food quality. Fill the majority of your diet with whole foods to hit your nutrients, protein and fibre - to give you energy, keep you full and make you feel good. If you can be flexible and allow yourself to enjoy some fun foods in your diet within your deficit calories, there’s nothing wrong with that. This is the approach I take with my clients to get great fat loss results without feeling over restricted or like any foods are off limits.
