converted my Mk1 Escort to a Dynamator and also kept the regulator in situ, can say its really worth doing everthing just runs better and never have to use a mains battery cherger again!

an old car like that i dont imagine gets driven a lot either so im guessing you have it on a trickle charger when its parked and in that case you dont really need a fancy alternator to keep it charged

I think you’ve made the right choice. That little Lucas C40 dynamo is fine with regular checks on your battery. I assume you also trickle charge? You can also up the charge rate inside the regulator.

My dad bought a Ford Prefect side valve engine to learn to drive in 1973. I could use it in the meantime. This one is last ones had overhead valve engine. side valve, valves in engine block

If you look after it as you are doing will be fine, two of my hillman avengers run dynamos, have serviced them and adjusted regulator boxes, fine for a car with original equipment, good work

I ride a motorcycle with a dynamo (MZ250) -main problem is managing the battery discharge in winter traffic. LED bulbs help, & wiring a Shottkey diode to bypass the electro-mech regulator cutout.

That car has worst probs: Steering wheel on the wrong side. Positiv pole on the carbody and neg. in the cabels...(I guess).

Haha, same! I daily a 55 Pontiac with a generator and I’ll never convert. Rebuilding them is easy and I don’t see any real issues with running one
