i say put more attention to the chickens, give eggs, shells can be fed back, can supplement with table scraps. Goats are easier to tend than sheep and less work because of the wool.

But first one must have the MONEY to buy land to build an off grid house with solar panels and a well and money is needed for said grass fed livestock and food plants etc. Money is the first step.

M’y chickens free range they eat grass, bugs etc… they forage and can survive without grain… I do grow sunflowers and corn for them… that’s it!

The only reason you should get a pig or chickens is to feed them table scraps if you are truly trying to be self sufficient.

Chickens don’t need grain. They forage. They’ll eat anything. ESPECIALLY left overs. Pigs also forage and eat anything. I grew up on a farm and still help my dad now that I’m grown.

The week after Halloween I will be collecting neighborhood pumpkins. Pumpkins that aren’t damaged keep all winter in cold cellar if not damaged. Chickens love them

While I don't disagree. My biggest concern would be my neighbors that didn't plan ahead and are hungry. They will do whatever is required is to feed themselves and their family.

Is there not an option to grow bugs? I have seen several videos on creating tubes to add waste which brings flies.
