@missclairebenjamin: 🚨 Handling the “emotionally immature” one👇 Being able to regulate our emotions and not have explosive outbursts is a part of emotional intelligence. Everyone is at different levels of emotional maturity. Sometimes as a manager you may find yourself managing someone who is still emotionally immature. Emotional maturity has nothing to do with age. Someone in their 20s can be more emotionally mature than someone in their 50s. If you are managing someone who displays emotionally immature behaviours like explosive outbursts I would recommend seeing this as a skill gap and aim to raise their awareness around it in a supportive and empathetic way. I know it’s tempting but try to avoid “telling them off” like a parent would a child. This is likely to create more emotionally immature behaviours. Instead approach it with curiosity. Ask questions to better understand where the behaviour was coming from and understand the root cause. Communicate the behaviour you want to encourage rather than focusing on the behaviour you don’t want. This could sound like: “Sometimes things are going to happen that feel unfair. Please can I ask when this happens in future you come and speak to me calmly and respectfully so we can work out a way forward together” You can also set a boundary respectfully. This would sound like: “Shouting and leaving the room without communication is something I need us to avoid” 💬 Leave a 👏 in the comments if this was helpful ✨ 📌 Please remember the advice offered in this video is generalised and will not fit every situation. Therefore please use your own judgement when using this advice and adapt it to suit your situation. it depends on whether the person is having emotional management issue or just being toxic. the former can be changed, but latter needs to go.

the style matters, but boundaries too: manager is not a therapist and trying to do this "how did you feel about it" thing sounds way off

Autistic people can't keep jobs. When overwhelmed, we can have panic attacks which can be misinterpreted as tantrums. We get told off & that causes a meltdown. Then welfare meetings pile on anxiety.

If straight up telling an adult that having a toddler tantrum at work isn’t acceptable, they shouldn’t be working 💀😂

We’re not their parents or therapists. Not our job to nurture them. This only leads to being taken advantage of because they know how to toe the line.

Yeah, it gors both ways. The managers are not angels. They can get worse thinking they have authority over another employee.
