@elenainthealps: I was heavily criticised when I took the decision of moving to Switzerland after finishing medical school in northern Spain. I was a pioneer in doing so, as the number of doctors from my university who emigrated back then could be counted with a hand. Why would you risk a brilliant career as a doctor in Spain to follow a dream with no guarantees? | guess people around me had a point. But I believed in my dream and didn't let anyone influence me. Why I am sharing this story? Because I want to encourage you guys to follow your dreams. Obviously, you should be aware that making this decision is only the start of the residency journey: 6 years of long working hours, night and weekend shifts, lots of pressure and responsibility. Switzerland is one of countries in the world where doctors work most hours, in line with the USA. (Its "only" 50 hours on the paper, but most weeks you will be putting 60-70hours in). Drop rates are high. And I am not going to lie, combining this with running 13 hours a week wasn't easy. But yes, life as a consultant gets better, but its still a lot of work!
