This day marked the end of a man’s life, one deeply affected by mental illness and a traumatic childhood 💔. Alan was convicted for the murder of three men, a crime he did commit. Yet, behind this act lay a long history of abuse and mental illness that was never fully considered 😢. Alan grew up in an unstable environment. From a young age, he experienced extreme physical and psychological abuse from his father. Court records reveal a “well-documented history of mental illness in the family.” This cruel childhood left deep scars, leading to severe mental disorders that affected his later life. A System Without Mercy 🛑 On September 22, 2022, the state attempted to execute Alan Miller by lethal injection for the first time, but the attempt failed due to issues accessing his veins. In the following years, Miller fought in court for an alternative method of execution, leading the state to choose nitrogen hypoxia. On September 26, 2024, Miller entered the execution chamber. When asked if he had any final words, he said: "I haven't done anything to be here." His last words reflected his confusion over the situation he found himself in, despite the crimes he had committed. His final meal consisted of hamburger steak, a baked potato, and fries – a simple request from a man trapped in a system that had ignored his mental health issues and traumatic past throughout his life. Then came the moment. At 6:16 p.m., the gas began to flow into the mask. Alan gasped several times, his hands trembled as the gas coursed through his body. At 6:38 p.m., Alan Eugene Miller was pronounced dead. After the execution, the Alabama Attorney General made a statement claiming, "Despite the disinformation campaigns of political activists, out-of-state attorneys, and biased media, the state has once again proven tonight that nitrogen hypoxia is both humane and effective." Words that many found appalling, given the suffering Miller experienced while lying on the execution table, trembling and gasping for air.
