Holding him prone likely killed him. I’m a LEO and Paramedic. Unquestionably the singular consistent thing in these cases is prone positioning.

Exactly what I thought happened when I first heard the story, the medics on scene acted negligently not criminally

A lot depends on the local protocols for that ems agency. It is hard to comment as a medic not knowing that. Ketamine reacts to different people differently. Need to monitor the airway and breathing

Okay I must be out of the loop since when did medics give multiple doses of ketamine?

I don’t see anything wrong but if you’re putting him in cuffs, just put him in the ambulance and get him out of there. If we have someone combative a cop rides with.

After he was in custody, he should have been rolled to a “recovery position” on his side, but more likely than not the cause of death will be some type of drug intoxication if I had to guess.

Wonder what dose of ketamine and how long between doses? That’s where to look first. Prob wasn’t monitoring oxygen sats I bet.

Appears to be excited delirium and unfortunately not a whole lot you can do and it takes a lot of people. Also unless you’re trained most people don’t know what it is

So, I will assume EMS was unaware if this guy was self medicating prior to their arrival or he wouldn't admit to it. So, police had to act as he was becoming violent towards EMS. I retired as an LEO

EM/EMS physician here and there are many things done wrong here- first the officers escalating this when he may have hit the officer- you can’t reason with someone like this and taking him to

As an LEO myself, we’re all afraid to do our jobs anymore. I could be in the right, and still get vilified or thrown under the bus by admin. I’d still take a bullet for a stranger who hates me though.

My only issue is why, especially with multiple officers on scene, they are leaving people in prone position? Cuff them, and either roll them on their side or sit them up.
