In this short snippet from our Deeper Look Series: Surah Al-Mursalat, Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan reflects on Allah’s words in Surah Al-Waqi’ah, {فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِمَوَٰقِعِ ٱلنُّجُومِ} (56:75), drawing a parallel between the Quranic imagery and what we know about light, time and the cosmos. The light we see from a distant star may have traveled billions of years before reaching us — meaning the star itself could have died long ago. Allah does not say He swears by the stars themselves, but by their positions, the places where they once were. On Judgment Day, the stars will be smudged. This process may already have begun, unfolding at distances so vast we would only see it billions of years later. The destruction of the universe could be moving toward us in unseen waves, row by row, until everything falls silent.
