For travellers that want some convenience I highly recommend looking at getting a Welcome Suica Card, they are amazing basically get you anywhere you want tap on and off.

For local travel all you need is a Suica card and just reload it with funds. Buying tickets for local rides is tedious. For the Shinkansen you can buy ticket online and then you just scan the QR code.

if you just want to travel around the big tokyo cities, buy the yamanote line 24h ticket, it costs 780yen i think. Its so worth it!
