@holistic.le: Although there’s SO much to be said on this topic I’ll start here: So why should you eat 15g of protein within 30 min of rising? Our cortisol levels peak within 30 minutes of waking up which helps initiate a sympathetic (alert) state in our bodies. This is beneficial because when we wake up we want this spike to start our day with adequate energy. However, women differ a little from men in that, if we forgo food within this window, we elevate our baseline sympathetic drive and down regulate a specific type of neuronal signalling in our brain that’s responsible for appetite hormonal regulation. The simple habit of not eating in the morning can cause a cascade of undesirable effects impacting the optimal functioning of our endocrine system, thyroid/HPA axis and brain. This can show up as that “tired but wired” feeling, difficulty sleeping, losing weight —the list goes on. So, if you’ve been fasting for years and swear by it, or are not feeling your best, I challenge you to give this hack a try for a few weeks and really pay attention to how your body feels.
