@davesengines: Fire 🔥 check out the damage on this 2022 Ram that caught fire with only 41,000 miles #autoshop #carrepair #enginebuilding #enginebuild #enginerepair
I'm wondering if it was due to rapid cooling when/if the engine fire was put out by first responders.

Cold water from the fire hose hit it and cracked it. That's my guess

I have read that you cannot machine the 5th gen blocks due to the material it is made of. Is this true?

Have the intake plenum milled off and put a banks on it or a custom intake

Could’ve been when they sprayed it down. It was so hot. It cooled too fast and cracked.

so that amount of heat didn't affect the strength of the block since it's composite.?

Well the aluminum was starting to melt which takes 1200°. Then the fire department comes with 60° water well there you got it rapid cooling pop crack

I’m surprised that heater grid bolt and nut stayed on strong through all that heat ! But they fall off and destroy your engine any other time. 🥺

very common on cummins heads to Crack from a fire. The head is still usable in a high performance setup. mill the shelf off and put an intake runner on it.

I have worked on Cummings that have come out of big rigs that I’ve been on fire and most cracks. I’ve seen like that is from when the fires going and the fire department pours water on them the metal

Have piles of heads like it from fires. Head not junk it’s good for a side draft set up.
