As a high school teacher we staffed kids with Canon Rebel T series. The basic bundle with 200mm zoom kit is $600 at common retailers. They’re durable, good quality and last forever too

I tried to go back and use my d3100 and I couldn't do it. especially after I've been using the d750. I'd recommend starting at a d750 first.
