FYI: A 1st edition of The Hobbit [1937] w/o the original dust jacket is $30-50K—if it has the original dust jacket it’s worth $150-200K. If it’s signed by Tolkien? Double the above prices.

It’s worth what someone is willing to pay and I’m guessing someone would pay more now. Smart move. 📚 📕 📖

No way did you ruin it. To the right person (like me but with way more money) that would be INCREDIBLE

From the monetary aspect, it is defaced - so it cannot be mint - however, the value may be less for the book itself BUT the signature also valued on the money scale as well ... so there's that ... NOW having that 1st edition along with the unique signature - especially the actor - would be PRICELESS to a true collector of Tolkien. You did NOT do wrong!

I think there are other actors involved in LOTR whose signature would devalue it, but Andy Serkis IS the EMBODIMENT of modern-day LOTR! his narration of the audiobooks will go down in history.

Probably reduced the market for the book, as for the value? No way to know until someone buys it.

That book is worth whatever someone wants to pay for. You'll never know unless you sell. HOWEVER, the memory? Priceless

wouldn’t it make it worth more since it’s more more unique? how many 1st editions hobbits are signed by Gollum let alone any of the other cast members

I mean…why does it matter how much sell value is, if you never plan on selling it, and the signature gives it more meaning to you?

Every comment I've ever seen on the casting of Gollum has been overwhelmingly pleased. For any 1st edition to be signed by an actor, he is the #1 perfect choice. He is the most recognizable of any

The only signature I would want on a 1st edition is Tolkien himself. This kinda ruins it for me. You could have had Andy sign a modern day copy and that would be fine. but not this , not this..

Why are people so obsessed with perceived value? You create a unique 1/1. See if you can get other cast members to sign as well and it will become a priceless museum piece.
