1/4 of the productivity 1/4 of the wage... they still get NDIS funding and stuff - this is just giving them something to do during the day

I work a regular part time job and only earn $50 a week (disabled), I can’t afford a car and have no hope of moving out. The government and employers are failing disabled workers

The company I work for has a disabled person working here 2/3 days a week and as much as I appreciate they also need money to live they do less than half the amount of work that anyone else does

I’m not saying it is right but supported work allows for people to have economic participation with funded supports. It allows them to keep their DSP while working bc they don’t go over the wage limit

My Aunty has an Intellectual Disability and she loved her work at a sheltered workplace. It gave her a sense of purpose and she was very proud of what she did. I hope this type of work stays on

1) I’m disabled and had to go through an employment agency to even get a job, when I did get the job the agency made an agreement with my then body I’d only receive $7 an hour. I was on public

I had an employee that was subsidised by an agency. He did dishes and helped around the bakery, and we paid $12 and the agency bought it up to minimum which was 16$ or so.

It’s like anything. You can’t pay them the same rate as an able person as they would not be able to do the work as one . But still they would be paid a third of a casual person .

this was confusing I thought the employer paid a reduced percentage of your wage and the government/NDIS PAID the other part of your wage giving you an equal wage employer 50% and NDIS 50%

I was under the impression it was a subsidised wage, and the government made it up to the minimum

It’s $6 because if it’s higher, it affects their benefits. However the social, emotional and physical benefits of being in supported meaningful work is priceless for many ❤️🌸

it’s also important to consider many of these staff or supported employees can require significant supports such as having a bsp etc, nobody is going to hire then because they can’t support it safely

I think the way it works in NZ is that they get assigned to workout how much the work place will pay and then the government tops up the rest to get to at least minimum wage
