If I remember correctly when the Simpsons started it was a 27 minute episode and now it’s 23. 4 minutes is an entire C story from that crew and can change so much. All to see shampoo. Or Dodge. Gross.

Its a bit more complicated that it sounds. You cannot just play a recorded TV show variable slower or faster like a vinyl record. The TV standards don't have variable framerates...

every friends episode is longer on the dvd. You miss a joke or two pr episode. And get some answers

I used to reformat acquired shows for rebroadcast and we did speed them up but only 3%, never 8%! We cut material out of the show to make it shorter. It was very tricky to retain its integrity

i thought they do this with every american show? they had to speed it up because of frame rates or because of time slots? friends is also much faster
