@thedermabroad: POV: Why I can never eat shiitakes again. 🍄 After experiencing shiitake dermatitis firsthand, I’ve learned my lesson! Tempting, but I’ll stick with the regular mushrooms from now on. 😅 👉Did you know this can happen after eating SHIITAKE mushrooms? It actually happened to me after eating undercooked shiitake mushrooms. 🍄 It’s not an allergic reaction but a reaction to a toxin in these mushrooms. The rash usually shows up as super itchy, whip-like streaks (these appear on their own, not scratch marks). It can start 24 hours to 5 days after eating undercooked shiitake mushrooms and can last up to 4 weeks! 😱 If you’ve been through this, you’ll probably think twice before ordering shiitake mushrooms again. The rash also flares with sun and heat, so stay out of it! ☀️ Antihistamines and topical steroids can help a bit, but don’t expect miracles.
