I put straw over my potatoes & veggies in my garden. We were getting way too much rain & straw helps disperse the rain so it doesn’t water log your soil & destroy what you’re growing.

I believe the straw covering mud was also called Thresh in the olden days, which led to the invention of thresholds!

It’s also used for erosion control, we put it on all bare soil at the rock quarry i work at every fall/winter.
