I’d wager i’ve done more research on Scott than 90% of this app since he happens to be my special interest. Let‘s get one thing out of the way: YES, he was toxic. But so was Zelda. And that is precisely my point. They were both no good for each other. I have seen countless of people say that Scott cheated on her throughout their relationship- yes. However he did so after SHE cheated on HIM, since he was busy with work. As their marriage began falling apart she started body shaming him and calling him not masculine enough, one of his biggest insecurities. It was only then that he started cheating. Second- people say that all his works were only plagarizing her diaries. That’s plain and simple wrong. He did take her diaries and used it as source material for his works, in a way you‘d use a conversation you had heard on the streets. He also took specific quotes from them for his female characters. He did NOT plagarize all her works (which doesnt excuse him using her diaries, ofc!!!). He was still more than able to write.

"This Side of Paradise" was published before they got married and showcases his literary talent. I have also seen people say he published her diaries after her death and… are people aware that he died 8 years before her, or…? A corpse could hardly do that. Lastly I need to address their helath issues. The reason Scott has such a bad image is that back when his biographies were released, alcoholism was still seen as a personal failure and NOT the illness we know it to be today. Zelda was ill- but so was he. With this post I do not mean to defend actions like him taking her diary but rather shed some light on the insane amount of misinformation on this app. I ALSO don‘t mean to bash zelda. That does not mean she was as innocent as people make her out to be, however. #fyp #fy #BookTok #thegreatgatsby #fscottfitzgerald #zeldasayre #zeldafitzgerald
