National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan on Tuesday said Iran launched nearly 200 ballistic missiles at Israel but that they were largely neutralized by U.S. and Israeli forces. American naval destroyers joined Israeli air defense units in firing interceptors to shoot down nearly all inbound missiles. Mr. Sullivan said they are not aware of any Israeli deaths and are tracking reports of the death of one Palestinian in the West Bank. He said they also do know of any damage to aircraft or strategic military assets in Israel. “In short, based on what we know at this point, this attack appears to have been defeated and ineffective,” Mr. Sullivan told reporters. “This was first and foremost the result of the professionalism of the IDF but in no small part because of the skilled work of the U.S. military and meticulous joint planning in anticipation of the attack.” President Biden and Vice President Harris monitored the events from the White House Situation Room. Mr. Sullivan said the U.S. will consult with the Israelis on the next steps and will continue to monitor for further attacks from Iran and its proxies. “We are now going to look at what the appropriate next steps are to secure, first and foremost, American interests and then to promote stability to the maximum extent possible as we go forward,” he said. The national security adviser said it was too soon to preview what consequences Tehran will face for what amounted to the largest-scale attack ever conduct by Iran against Israel. “We have made clear that there will be severe consequences for this attack, and we will work with Israel to make that the case,” Mr. Sullivan said. #israel #iran #whitehouse #cspan - @cspanofficial
