@drjaleelmohammed: Separation anxiety in adults is a mental health condition characterised by excessive fear or anxiety about being separated from attachment figures, such as family members or close loved ones. While often associated with childhood, it can persist or emerge in adulthood. Common symptoms include intense worry about the safety of loved ones, difficulty being alone, and avoidance of situations where separation might occur. Adults may experience physical symptoms like headaches or nausea, and emotional distress such as panic attacks or nightmares about separation. The condition can significantly disrupt daily life, work, and relationships. Separation anxiety in adults is recognised in both the DSM-5 and ICD-11 and can be treated through therapy, medication, or a combination of both. #anxiety #separation #separationanxiety #MentalHealth #psychiatry #psychiatrist

Ex husband had this so bad over his his adult sons when we moved overseas... so extreme he left our home & broke our marriage. His enmeshed family, conditioned guilt, toxic shame, codependency, parentification, causing him to also be a dismissive avoidant in our relationship... it was exhausting. Even though I explained it was normal not to live in the same country when your kids grow up, he couldn't handle it. His whole family contributed to it with guilt tripping & manipulation. This eventually ruined our 12 year marriage

My daughter had this when she was younger. It was so heartbreaking. I felt guilty for even having to go to work 😞

Dr Jaleel Mohammed :
For early humans, staying close to caregivers or loved ones was essential for survival, so anxiety about separation may have developed as a protective mechanism

I’m just broken. My FYP is just rubbing it all in again, just like they did when I was just a child.
