@mistymountainlegends: It’s hard to put into words how we’ve been feeling since Hurricane Helene hit. We’ve weathered many storms here in Western NC, but we’ve never seen the amount of damage and loss this event caused. Families have lost loved ones, people are still missing, entire neighborhoods have been wiped off the map. We are saddened by the destruction to our beautiful mountains, but far more devastated for the loss of life and homes in our community. But today gave us some hope. We were able to volunteer to package and distribute food for those in need, and seeing the determination of our community to help as we grieve was extremely encouraging. We’ll be continuing to volunteer our time and resources, so it’ll be a bit before we’re in the right headspace to get back to our regular funny content. That said, if you had planned to vacation in Western NC, please reconsider. Not only is travel here dangerous or even impossible where roads have been washed away, it also makes it harder for disaster relief to quickly and efficiently provide aid. Our hotels are currently full of locals who lost their homes and volunteers who are here to help with rebuilding and medical care. We will be back, but we’re taking time to heal.
