“IT IS FINISHED!” — the word Jesus used before he died and what it means. RESPONSE TO SOME OBJECTIONS: As this went viral on IG, some comments to the effect of “Jesus didn't cry out in English!”, and “Jesus spoke Aramaic, not Greek!” A) Obviously, when I said “Jesus cried out, in English, ‘It is finished’”, I meant that's how what he cried out is *translated* in English, not that I thought Jesus spoke English in 1st century Israel :) B) Yes, Jesus’ primary language was Aramaic, but we know he probably also spoke Greek because the region was multilingual and he had conversations with Romans. Also Christians believe the WORDS of the Scriptures are inspired by the spirit, so even if he cried out in Aramaic, the Spirit inspired his cry to be recorded in Greek as “Tetelestai.” ********* Public thanks to my friend and brother @Carlos Erazo for encouraging me to translate his ideas here into English.
