THIS. And it totally made sense bc of how much Filch hated the students. Of course he was drop-kicking them! 😂 Even after I realized it was a different kind of punting I still couldn’t stop picturing the drop kicking.

the biscuits McGonagall gave Harry, she was actually giving him cookies, I thought for the longest time she was giving him buttermilk biscuits...

I'm Australian. I thought he was yeeting them like the Americans. Don't know if it's consistent for others, but I definitely remember thinking that.

Maybe Filch wasn’t a monster, we just didn’t understand UK English 😂

The ONLY reason I had any clue what Filch was doing was from Mary Poppins. I was fascinated with Bert “punting on the Thames” in the chalk sequence.

My English grandmother asked to be “knocked up” in the morning. Apparently for my silent generation English grandmother that meant knocking on her door to wake her up and tbh it makes more sense

The punting always made sense to me because of the pigtail bit in Matilda. Filch 🤝 Trunchbull

I’m australian. A punter is someone who loves horse racing or who bets on a footy game so I figured it was like footy and they got kicked across!

I giggle every time this comes up. Because Filch was miserable doing the punting. If it were American punting, I can only assume he would have been GLEEFUL to provide the service 😆

hahahha as an Australian I also thought you meant he was kicking kids across the floor. Not sure what our version of the books say.

Australians are apparently bilingual. We understand both American and UK English fluently. We use all the terms interchangeable.

Honestly, as an Australian I thought the same thing, it made Ootp so much funnier.

Hahaha this is an interesting point. I’m Scottish and if I was to say “I punted…” I would mean kicked it. But yet I have read that line multiple times and never once questioned what it meant.

PANTS! I know it, I know that in England it means underwear. But when I went to England and my suitcase didn’t make it on time… I said I only had the one pair of pants… and confused my friends greatly
