your absolutely wrong if you sanded it w 220 it would stick also use a enamel

You could sand it to have it adhere but it's not gonna work nearly as quick or well as just using a bonding primer like he said

uae a good quality waterbourne enamel and sand to create a profile (increased surface area) so the overcoat can key onto the surface..

We use oil based primer and lay latex on top of it on metal. It is a great combo.

I'd never use gloss paint again. 2 years later I'm still sanding only 4 rooms windows door skirts to use wb paint. yes sanding is crucial 🙌

No its latex over oil not oil over latex. The problem is build of grease in the house from cooking and a bad exhaust system and grease from hands from touching it over the years. it must be primed. if I hasn't been painted in years it will have grease build up
