The second I realized I could leave this world and live in a completely different one just by looking at words on a piece of paper I’ve never came back.

And then as soon as I had access to social media and streaming services, those became my escapes and now I can’t read more than a few pages before grabbing my phone 😭

(the excessive reader to maladaptive daydreamer pipeline)

I was an avid reader. I had a horrible home life as a kid in a fundamentalist Christian house. I had no friends except the ones in books.

It was escapism and validation for me, all in one, because I’d 1000% read the hardest accelerated reader books to earn the most points so I’d be recognized at the end of the year.

But it doesn’t 💯 mean if you thoroughly loved to read that you had an abusive childhood. I read copious amounts of books because I loved my imagination and I also loved my childhood too.

Tip for those struggling to go back to reading because tv or SM became the escapism. Fan fiction, of whatever show or movie you’re into, having the visual media to pull from helps ease 1/2

Oh my god this made me realize that the reason I don’t read as much as I used to is because I have other forms of escapism now, I’ve been wondering why I suddenly stopped finding books appealing

I recently got back into reading after taking a several year break because I realized this about myself. it's when you put down that book and just get drowned in depression at the realization ur irl
