@jujumaoo: Apple Fritters | Medieval Meals Ep. 5 In medieval times, baking was a specialized craft, often restricted to professional bakers in communal ovens. Due to the high cost of ingredients and the need for special equipment, most commoners couldn't bake at home. Similarly, flour was only available from a licensed miller due to the profession also needing specialized equipment. Nonetheless, this shouldn’t stop you from trying these really easy to make and tasty medieval style apple fritters! Disclaimer: While the content is inspired by real research from medieval times, it also incorporates elements of medieval fantasy and fictional fun. Some aspects are creatively adapted for entertainment purposes and may not be historically accurate. Researchers: • Igi Gomez • Vince Carino Resources: • Adamson, M. W. (2004). INGREDIENTS: Apple Fritters: • 1 ¼ cup ale or beer • 1 tbsp dry yeast • 1 cup flour • 3-4 apples • 1/2 tsp salt • Oil for frying -Egg Yolks • Confectioner Sugar INSTRUCTIONS: • Pour ¼ cup ale or beer along with yeast into a bowl, stir and set aside for 10 minutes to let the yeast activate. • While this is happening, slice and core your apple into wedges, and set it aside for later use. • After allowing the yeast to activate, start adding egg yolks, flour, and the rest of your ale into the mixture. Mix and combine well before adding the apple wedges. • Cover the mixture in a damp towel, and allow it to rise for about 30 minutes. After this #medievalfood #darkfantasy #medieval #lightfantasy

Looks delicious, but a sprinkle of sugar would be extraordinarily expensive for the average medieval person, perhaps a drizzle of honey.
