@gugunderwater: Watch as this Ctenophore excretes a seemingly glowing green goo multiple times! I’ve watched it frame by frame, trying to understand exactly what we’re seeing here, but haven’t come up with any solid answers. It is definitely not ctenophore poo - this isn’t how it’s done (yes, I’ve watched videos on and carefully studied ctenophore digestion🤓). An alternative theory - it’s not the ctenophore (aka “comb jelly”) creating the green goo, but rather as the amphipods are attracted to my video lights, when they crash into the ctenophore’s colloblasts (sticky, but non-stinging cells), the amphipods are the ones releasing the goo as some sort of defense mechanism once caught by the ctenophore.🤔 .
