Debut is used mainly for performance or for the launch of something, estrenar is most commonly used for clothing that you use for the first time

I don't think estrenar has a direct translation because you can't say I'm debuting this shirt today. or I'm going to debut a new for New Years, it just doesn't sound right

English has a lot of words for putting a new thing to first use or viewing: debut, initiate, launch, break in, present, introduce

Estrenar is not debut. It’s actually “to showcase”. People don’t use it in English because they just don’t, but it is a verb and has the same meaning as in Spanish Estrenar: to display a new outfit

It should be friolent@ to describe a person sensitive to the cold, friolero means chilly or cold

Is there a word for empalagada because I use it in Spanish a lot but I’ve made up a word for it in English “empalagated” now my non Spanish speaking husband uses it too.

Maybe they consider “debut” to be strictly French and don’t count borrowed words?

i feel like debut implies that other people saw it whereas estrenar may not? debut to me definitely implies that something is making its first appearance so i think it’s slightly different
