@dollartreedinners: How I prep sandwiches so they don’t get soggy! I’ve done with a lot of bread, but I find that a slightly more dense bread holds up a little better than a super soft bread. (I like to use Pepperidge Farm Honey White) I know a lot of people disagree on this but I put mayonnaise on the sandwich first, and I spread it on both pieces of bread. Remember when I made my uncrustables and I talked about how peanut butter has a high fat content and creates a barrier that water cannot penetrate, mayonnaise does the same thing. I’m prepping these sandwiches for Michael and likes mustard on his sandwiches so I put some of that down as well. Then I do deli meat, I do 4 slices each of turkey and roast beef, and lastly cheese, and that is all I put on the base sandwich, now what I like to do is close it up, and wrap it in a napkin or paper towel. This is dual purpose, it helps to prevent the bread from drying out, but also to absorb any moisture so that the sandwich doesn’t get soggy. I pack the sandwich in plastic containers, and I include separate bags of fresh toppings, lettuce, tomato, and pickles so that those can be added right before the sandwich is eaten.
