Actually, I think college itself is a bargaining tool. Earning a degree can be done lazily, but college is also a great way to lay down a foundation for a good work ethic that can be applied to jobs.

doesnt being irreplaceable make you less likely to get promoted? just based on how hard it would be to find a replacement, lol

i got “laid off” from my company after 5 total years in industry, their reasoning was completely arbitrary and they reposted my job under a different title during my notice period.

You get promoted in corporate when you attend the meetings, shake hands with the bosses, and of course work hard.

No college, homeless to mid 200s in 10 years - director. I was able to do it by being the best in every role no matter how humble. Do the jobs above you without asking but keep your bosses happy #1

It’s not really about how hard you work, it’s about how hard leadership thinks you’re working and how much they like you

I think you forget that it also depends on what college you graduated from, My nephew graduated from Yale, he worked part-time tutoring other students. He came right out of college earning six figures

This is good advice, I been in the corporate workforce for 12 years. I'd add that you SHOULD try and start at the highest level possible. Your dad's old CXO buddy IS your friend...no shame in the game
