One thing I loooooooooove about being an adult is the ability to remove myself from situations that younger me was forced to be in due to not having the option to leave. It’s so freeing.

No bc when I asked my mom why didn’t she treat me the way my friends parents treated them, or why didn’t she protect me like moms in a movie she always said “bc life isn’t a fairytale” LIKE MAAM WHAT

Realizing how intentional it was too. She was so nice to everyone else but when it was just me and her… oh she let the real her out

Books saved my sanity from the non-stop gaslighting and scapegoating. People didn’t act like that in books so I knew it wasn’t normal.

I just had this convo w my mom. I gave her examples of things she said and made her guess how old I was when she said and proceed to detail how psychotic it was that she spoke to a child like that

Me as a child knowing the way they treated me wasn’t all in my head and that as adults they were literal demons for doing that 🥹 lmao bc as an adult I’ve never felt that in me.

it hurts knowing I wasn't being "dramatic" it was serious mental issues I was experiencing due to the treatment/environment I was in. and I knew it wasn't normal but I was only a child

Same! It took until my mid 20s for me to realize that it wasn't normal for me to be called all sorts of horrific names at 7 years old that would start fist fights if those were aimed at an adult.
