You do lose just as many hairs, but you don’t notice. Because your hair is so short they just fall away or rinse off. Longer hairs get tangled.

It’s a wonder I have any hair at all at this point. Mine falls out by the handfuls when I wash it, when I brush it & all day long. It’s way thinner than it was when I was 20ish.

Grew up seeing my grandmother do this…. And also use a comb to do it too. But she had the “old lady Cotton Candy Bouf” hair too

As a former Cosmetologist, it's normal for everyone to lose 50 to 100 hairs per day and certain times you will lose more in the shedding phase. Women with long hair get tangles more too.
