Diana Buttu, a Palestinian human rights attorney, emphasised that Israeli military and settler violence against Palestinians in the West Bank was already on the rise before October 7, and that “since October, it's simply escalated.” In a June statement on Israeli violence in the West Bank, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk said, "Pervasive impunity for such crimes has been commonplace for far too long in the occupied West Bank. Such impunity has created an enabling environment for more and more unlawful killings by the ISF.” Israel’s diplomatic mission said their actions were to protect their population and that "Israel will continue to operate against Palestinian terrorism, from wherever it emanates, in line with international law, to protect and defend our population.” #westbank #israel #palestine #gaza
