I think it’s applicable for places like Berghain who have cultural programming that expands well outside of just a “club” but I don’t think this is applicable to all nightlife venues.

clubs in Brussels also have been added to the intangible cultural heritage list. (actually even before Berlin 😉)

Bars are in the same category in many places. I’ve met a lot of my friends at karaoke at the local goth bar. I’d imagine it’s the same for many people in Berlin clubs

Europe has really entered serious cultural decline if such vulgar lowlife activities are treated as cultural landmarks that should be preserved. What’s next? whorehouses? Crack dens?

It is a shame, but under current conditions the Berlin club scene is unsustainable. The Cost of Living, Aging of Clubgoers, and Demographic Change of Berlin overall point towards decline of the scene.

I support club culture but it’s gotta be authentic. “Protecting” them is backwards honestly. The club culture evolves and downtrend will allow for a new culture to emerge.
