lame also means boring, annoying, etc. also fear can genuinely paralyze you temporarily. you can become so terrified you can’t move. people do not need to remove phrases from their vocabulary which truly have no ill meaning because you think it does

Turn a blind eye isn’t actually ableism! I’d see why people might think it is. The phase “turn a blind eye” is usually used to call out someone who refuses to acknowledge something or can’t see the truth. It’s used not necessarily attacking anyone who is blind.

fear absolutely can paralyse you, especially for people with FND, narcolepsy, or even fully “healthy” people.

I think it’s not the phrase that’s ableist but it’s the intentions behind them that would be

so sometimes words can change meaning because language evolves. on the note of the paralyzed with fear, it's a very real thing that can happen to a fully able bodied person in an immediate shock situation

there are different responses to fear or stress, one of them being fawn where youre so stressed you cant move, so i think that the paralyzed with fear phrase is accurate

Good on you for talking out about it!! I do think when people say paralysed with fear, they’re referring to a flight or fight response where they genuinly can’t move their body, but I do understand

I think that some of these are just up to the person. I have a friend who is visually impaired and we busted out laughing at the phrase because she is literally turning a blind eye.
