@missclairebenjamin: 🚨 Handling the “emotional dumper”👇 Sometimes people get caught in a cycle of emotionally dumping onto us and not moving forward. It can be incredibly tiring to keep listening to this even when you want to be supportive. Often people aren’t aware they’re doing this so it can be helpful to disrupt the dynamic and raise their awareness supportively. I would recommend the following steps: 1️⃣ Politely interrupt them and say something like: “[NAME] sorry to interrupt you mid-flow. I can see how much this situation is getting to you and I really want to be supportive” 2️⃣ Share what you’re noticing to raise their awareness 3️⃣ Seek their input by asking them how you can best support them 4️⃣ If you don’t feel like you’re the right person to help let them know and suggest someone else who may be able to support them. 📌 Please be mindful that the approach shown in this video will not fit every situation so always use your own judgement and adapt it to suit your own circumstances. You’ve got this! 💬 Have you ever been in this situation? Reminds me of “venting is a lot like a fart: it feels good to let it out but others gotta work in the stink.” (Sorry for the crass!)

Love your content!! Could you do a video on how to turn down an invite from a coworker for after work activities. I enjoy my coworkers, but don't really want to hang out with them outside of work 😬

My colleague is constantly on their phone during work time, I’ve raised the issue with management but nothing is changing. I’m always having to pick their work up because they’re behind.

How would you take this same tactic, but reframe it trying to get the dumper to help themselves?

FYI when I made this video Steve is a manager or someone better equipped to help Claire. I’m not suggesting sending her off to someone else for the sake of it 🙂
