Not me thinking a 50 buck bunnings voucher would be acceptable 😅 like everyone needs stuff from Bunnings 🤷‍♀️

Why do we have to keep rewarding people for choosing to get married and have expensive weddings???

I’ve been giving $100 as a gift for a wedding since my friends started getting married 15 years ago. No inflation. I’m single and I don’t plan to have a wedding, so I’m never receiving anything back.

I definitely think this is a cultural thing…I’m middle eastern and we would never turn up empty handed to a wedding! In general it seems like non-Anglo weddings are bigger on cash gifts I think.

I’ve always been told you should at least pay the cost of your dinner

I think it’s the obligatory that’s the problem. I was a bridesmaid once who spent money on dress, shoes, hotel, hair, make up- they were offended I didn’t give a gift. IM THE GIFT 😂 ME!

People forget you can say no to a wedding invite. They spend about $100-$200pp so a cash gift is pretty standard

i was always told to spend enough to cover your cost. ie, drinks and food.

Weddings cost $200 a head and I'm being conservative. so $150-200 for a gift to cover your head is pretty normal

Any wedding nowadays is min $200 a head unless you do it in your backyard and cook. It’s actually very hard to have a cheap wedding at a venue. even if you invite 40 people, there’s a minimum spend

I have a personal opinion that your present should cover the cost of your attendance. Fancy, sit down wedding with 3 course meals, over $200. Whereas if it’s a birthday, and you’re paying for yourself

To me, $20-50 is a birthday gift and $50-100 is a wedding gift. But I only give a gift if it’s a close friend or family member. And I’m not giving cash - I like selecting a present.

My mum told me MINIMUM was $500 unless you wanted people to think you were cheap, esp. bride’s parents. But that might be more of a cultural thing for us

Literally going to a wedding this weekend and they are getting $100 from me. I cannot afford more. I’m a single gal with a mortgage. I’m already stressing about the cost of an Uber 😂

I don’t agree with the whole, pay for what it would cost you to attend the wedding. I’m a guest! There should be no expectations. Some people can’t afford that and shouldn’t be judged

I think traditionally weddings gifts were things like toasters and kettles and homewares stuff because back in the day people didn’t live together till after marriage so it was expected in a sense

Yessss omg there can’t be a “standard” amount for a wedding gift because income varies sooo much! There should be no expectation for gifts IMO. A wedding invite shouldn’t be transactional.

You know what? One of my friends is getting married and didn’t live with her fiancé before hand so I’m a lot more inclined to like go in for a decent gift

I’m single and I usually have had to travel for every wedding I’ve been to (I’ve been to almost 1 per year since 2015). If I already spent $500+ to be there I can’t afford more than $100 for a gift.
