There’s a balance.. my hyper independence also comes from the childhood trauma of not being able to rely on anyone.

my parents did that, I am great at solving problems but feel like a weak person for asking help.

Problem solvers are the absolute best people to work with, be around, have around in just about every situation. Adult problem solvers were once kids allowed to solve problems.

So true, I believe in teaching children independence at an early age and the only way to do that is to allow them to solve their own problems.

what are the downsides to leaving them to solve their problems over a prolonged period especially problems beyond their comprehension?

This is facts! I raised my oldest daughter like that, and she’s so clueless sometimes. My youngest daughter is 8 and she basically can solve adult problems on all levels bc I changed my parenting.

I can’t agree with this. My parents left me to do it everything by myself. Never helped me for anything even advised me to do anything, just my mum always putting her opinion over mine and she thought

I was forced to solve my own problems and never really had any help so I’m hyper independent which now that I have kids my trauma response is let me help so they don’t feel how I felt growing up.. 😟

My son is 3yrs old and if I see him struggling with a problem or diff , I always just give him encouragement that he can figure it out on his own. Obviously it’s a challenge that a he is capable
