@antjnferno: I want to talk about two specific parallels that I noticed in The Hobbit movies, especially in the last one. Bilbo and Thorin:
let's forget Thorin giving Bilbo the mithril shirt, even though it could have saved him or his family. let's forget the tree that Bilbo will plant in the Shire, born from an acorn, fruit of the oak tree, symbol of Thorin, all clearly a metaphor for love growing. let's forget the way Thorin looks at Bilbo. let's forget Bilbo saying something like "he was to me..." without finishing the sentence. because all of this could just be a figment of our imagination, right? (wrong, it's very obvious, but let's move on).
I noticed a parallel that is made in the movie and that leaves little room for imagination. when Kili d¡es, Tauriel is devastated and cries over his body. same thing happens with Thorin and Bilbo. ok everything normal. but right after the scene of Bilbo crying for Thorin, the scene immediately switches to Tauriel crying for Kili. could it be more obvious than that? parallels like this are very often used in cinema to show similar or equal scenes that happen to different characters. Tauriel was crying for her beloved, and Bilbo for his friend? naaah, let's be real. Peter Jackson knew exactly what he was doing and there is no way anyone can deny it. Legolas and Aragorn:
Thranduil was against Legolas' love for Tauriel because she is a mere two-bit elf, of too low lineage for his son, the prince (thank you Thranduil). but at the end of the film, when Legolas says he can't go back to his kingdom, Thranduil says this: "go north, find the Dunedain. there's a young ranger amongst them, you should meet him. his father, Arathorn, was a good man, his son might grow to be a great one." he's talking about Aragorn, of course. everything normal, everything ok. but you have to see when this scene happens. Legolas has just witnessed the d34th of Tauriel's beloved and her crying over his body. at that moment he understood that he had no chance with her. then he meets Thranduil, who says that sentence to him. immediately after, Thranduil goes to Tauriel. this time the parallel is a little more subtle, but still quite obvious.
to recap:
1. Legolas is "heartbroken" after seeing his beloved crying over Kili's body.
2. Legolas meets Thranduil, the person who was against his love for Tauriel.
3. Thranduil introduces Aragorn to Legolas, saying that he will be a great man.
do you understand what I mean? with the sentence "his son (Aragorn) might grow to be a great one" Thranduil underlines the difference between Tauriel and Aragorn, basically saying that he is better than her for his son.  again, Peter Jackson knew exactly what he was doing, and I don't want to hear anyone say "that scene is just meant to be an easter egg". no guys, do you know how cinema works? it's a subtle parallel but very well done if you understand it, especially if you then go and notice all the very gay scenes between Aragorn and Legolas of the three lotr movies.
just to give some examples: the scene of Legolas giving Aragorn his necklace back, their hands touching for a little too long, Legolas' look, and Eowyn misunderstanding that the elf who gave Aragorn that necklace was actually Legolas. or the wedding scene, literally my Roman empire, even now I can't explain why Lagolas looks more like the bride rather than Arwen, and that long glance after the "hannon le". come on! #thehobbit #thelordoftherings #peterjackson #tolkien #tolkientok #thorin #bilbo #bagginshield #legolas #aragorn #aralas #orlandobloom #martinfreeman #middleearth

Legolas and Gimli ALSO Sam and Frodo ERASURE. And yeah Richard Armitage stated a few times that he played Thorin as not only in love with but also "quite singularly obsessed with" Bilbo lmao

When Sam said to Frodo “It’s your Sam, do you remember your Sam” or something like that and Frodo said something like “I could never forget my Sam” 👀 that’s not very platonic
