Also our current system is cheap either. A mile of pavement is much more expensive than a mile of track. And you get more for that mile because unlike roads. Trains and busses and scale to our needs.

a train ride to Chicago costs about the same as a flight for me, but I had to look it up to find out the closest train station is only 3 minutes from my house. they don't advertise as well as airlines
