This year. They have started giving parents fines in NZ for truancy. Yet we're all told if they're sick don't send them. then on other hand a holiday overseas is not a good enough reason.

In CA, my HS boys were out of school sick for a week. Both straight A students. We got truancy letters for them being out a week. This policy is ridiculous and punitive. It doesn’t look at the “why”

My son was out (with a doctors note) for 5 days due to hand foot and mouth. I got a letter threatening me and telling me if he misses anything I have to have a doctors note or I can be in truancy.

My wife and I had to move to another country because of work. with 15 days of school left. back in like 2004 or 2005. We both got arrested and taken to jail for failure to have child attend school.

my sons school implemented a program that if your child is absent. if they turn in their work for that day/s, they don't get marked as absent. Kids are the future! not government funding.
