At least 6 Palestinian journalists have been killed in Gaza, 2 more are missing, and 1 has been injured amid the ongoing conflict in Israel and Gaza. Saeed al-Taweel, the editor-in-chief of Al-Khamsa News, along with two other journalists were killed on October 10 while attempting to film a building in Gaza City, according to Al Jazeera. The crew reportedly received a warning that the building would be bombed, prompting the journalists to stand a safe distance away. However, the attack ultimately hit a different building, which was located closer to the group, killing al-Taweel, Mohammed Subh, and Hisham Alnwajha, Al Jazeera reported. According to the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), three other Palestinian journalists were fatally shot on October 7 while reporting in the Gaza Strip: Ain Media photographer Ibrahim Mohammad Lafi, Smart Media reporter Mohammad Jarghoun, and freelance journalist Mohammad El-Salhi. Ain Media photographer Haitham Abdelwahid and Nidal Al-Wahidi, a photographer for the Al-Najah channel, have both been reported missing since October 7, according to CPJ. Additionally, a correspondent for the Al-Ghad channel named Ibrahim Qanan suffered injuries from shrapnel while in the southern Gaza Strip, Al Jazeera reported. ‘We call on all sides to remember that journalists are civilians and should not be targeted.
