@cassara.the.label: Dupe dress for the Anabelle dress from House of CB. Now before you get all excited we did try to buy and/or hire this dress for my daughter! It was way too long on her to hire so we dashed into the Sydney CBD and the dress way no where to be found!! So off we hopped to Tessuti Fabrics and picked up the last of their roll of crepe backed satin in black! It was super affordable and had a lovely weight and drape. We also picked up the cotton eyelet lace there. This was very easy to sew into the dress and created the extra detail just like the original! Here’s my top tips for sewing this relatively quick and well fitted formal dress: 1. Buy a great fabric! This one was under $30 a metre and the whole dress was about 1/3 retail and a little less than the hire price and I know she’ll get a lot of use out of the dress as it’s a classic! 2. Use this gorgeous and inexpensive eyelet lace. I sewed close to the edge of the eyelet then overlocked/serged the edges along with the fabric so they’re super neat and sit cleanly. 3. Use a soldering iron to make the eyelet holes neat and tidy before adding the hardware! I dashed to Bunnings especially for this!! Remember it’ll only work if your fabric is synthetic. 4. My favourite hack is buy a cheap bra that fits and sew it in! This gives support, clean lines and a quick solution. I cut the ends off the bra and zig zagged it to the lining for a secure fit. So there you go! This dress took me about two afternoons to finish and it fitted her beautifully! It was about an inch shorter than floor length and the feedback is it was still too long so lucky we didn’t hire one!! Let me know if you have any questions!
