Have you ever tried using a Raytech gun to check bearing temperatures? I do on my round Behler and it pretty helpful.

When you take the upper sheaves off and do those bearings inspect the mount. I’ve had multiple stub shafts snap off or about to snap off when I worked for a Deere dealer

Those variable drives are notorious for cracking on the mount bracket while you have it off take a good look at it. I've pulled huge rocks out of the feeder houses
